Murray, Donald M. “Teach Writing as a Process Not Product.” Cross-Talk in Comp Theory, edited by Victor Villanueva and Kristin L. Arola, National Council of Teachers of English, 2011, pp. 3-6.

In the article “Teach Writing as a Process Not Product,” Donald M. Murray proposes that English teachers should show their students that writing is a process and they “should teach unfinished writing” (4). Murray substantiates his claim through anecdotal evidence. His objective is to break English teachers free from stale ideas about how to teach writing in order to improve the current method and help students learn how to write better. He expects his ideas will be useful for English teachers and specifically addresses his article to them. As a student and possible future teacher, I appreciate his fresh perspective that will hopefully lead to better methods of teaching and learning how to write.
